Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of Legacy Journal. We tried to write them like a real person speaking — not a wall of contract language. Read them in full; the longer Legacy Contract you sign inside the app extends this with the specifics of succession, voice cloning consent, and posthumous delivery.

Acceptance

By using Legacy Journal, you agree to these terms and to the Legacy Contract presented inside the app. If you do not agree with either, please do not use Legacy Journal.

Your content

You retain ownership of all stories, recordings, and memories you create. By using Legacy Journal, you grant us a limited licence to store, process, and deliver your content to the family members you designate, according to your instructions — and for no other purpose. We do not licence your content for marketing, AI training outside your own Eternal Voice, or any other commercial use.

Sealed memories are permanent

Once a story is sealed, it is permanent. Sealed memories cannot be edited, deleted, or altered — by you, by an heir, or by Legacy Journal. This is by design: your stories must remain exactly as you told them. Unsaved session recordings are never persisted.

Succession & delivery — the two-heir confirmation protocol

Your archive remains private and inaccessible to your heirs during your lifetime. After you are gone, your designated heirs may trigger the succession process — but the vault opens only after two heirs independently confirm the event within their authenticated Legacy Journal accounts. Never one heir alone. Never anyone outside the heirs you named.

This process is consistent with the Revised Uniform Fiduciary Access to Digital Assets Act (RUFADAA) and is detailed in Section IV of your Legacy Contract.

Prohibited use

You may not use Legacy Journal to store illegal content, impersonate others, or record conversations without consent. All voice recordings must be of yourself or made with the explicit permission of the speaker. Voice clone misuse outside your own archive (attempting to extract or repurpose another person's voice clone) is grounds for immediate termination.

Subscriptions

Legacy Journal runs on an annual subscription. Your subscription funds the storage, redundancy, and compute that keep your archive durable over the long term. If you cancel, your archive enters a read-only grace period; you can still listen to everything you sealed, but new Ritual sessions pause until you renew. We will never auto-delete your archive without an explicit deletion request from you.

Durability commitment

We commit to preserving your archive for at least 100 years from your last active session, using a 3-2-1 redundancy posture (three copies, two storage media, one offsite) with periodic cryptographic fixity hashing to detect data degradation.

If Legacy Journal ceases operations, your encrypted archive will be transferred to your designated heir or to a RUFADAA-compliant digital fiduciary — this commitment is stated formally in Section VI of your Legacy Contract.

Limitation of liability

Legacy Journal is provided "as is". We are not liable for data loss outside our durability commitment, service interruptions, or the emotional impact of delivered memories. We make every reasonable effort to preserve your data, but cannot guarantee perpetual operation in every imaginable future.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms occasionally. When we do, we will notify you inside the app and on this page; meaningful changes require fresh acceptance before continued use. Your current consent records and your existing memories are unaffected by a terms update.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Where state or national consumer-privacy laws (BIPA, MHMDA, CCPA, GDPR, etc.) confer rights that conflict with this clause, those laws prevail.
